DIN 11853 couplings are a sanitary connection and originate from the DIN 11864 standard, which, in the past, consisted of a long and a short version. In 2006, this standard was split and the coupling with short weld ends became the DIN 11853 standard. The sealing principle has been developed in such a way that there is no dead space between the coupling parts and the seal so that it fits almost seamlessly. These couplings are divided into three groups, namely:

The difference between the DIN 11853 and DIN 11864 couplings is the length of the coupling. For example: a welding point piece DN50 according to DIN 11853 has a length of 30 mm and a welding point piece DN50 the same according to the DIN 11864 standard has a length of 48 mm. This makes DIN 11864 couplings extremely suitable for orbital welding. DIN 11853 couplings are welded manually. The O-ring and groove are the same of both standards.
For the DIN 11853 coupling there are two possible sealing principles namely type A and B. The most common form is sealing form A, with this coupling is sealed by means of an O-ring construction. Type B, according to the standard the 'formdichtung', has a square as its shape. Type B, is difficult to obtain and rarely occurs in practice. The O-rings are available in EPDM. FKM, VMQ and HNBR. The pre-material must comply with DIN EN 10088-3 and is available with an FDA or EC1935/2004 certificate.
These couplings are available in DIN, INCH and ISO versions. The tube sizes are shown in the overview below.

According to the standard, components must be clearly marked with the following parts:
As standard, a DIN 11853 coupling complies with the hygiene class H3. This means that the fitting is internally an Ra of 0.8μm and externally has an Ra of 1.6μm. In addition, all couplings are protected with end caps and individually wrapped with plastic film
